Although I really enjoyed creating it, I think this one has something of a turbulent feel to it. I guess it's understandable when one is painting fresh-caught, live crabs the mind automatically is filled with images from recent news coverage of the gulf oil spill disaster and its effects on gulf fishermen. I suppose that's why this painting started out as just a gloomy sort of day and as the painting progressed, the clouds in the backgroud went from just gloomy to foreboding. The water was just dark and murky looking at first, but the approaching storm stirred it into a chop whose waves are beating against the dock. This crabber just did beat the storm with his small catch.
